‘We are not rich at all’: Frugal brother catches his unemployed sibling buying an expensive LEGO set with their mom's credit card, teaches him a lesson about family and finances

LEGO purchases are a wealth indicator, not a revenge plot, but when this unemployed freeloader found out that his brother had a little extra skrilla on the side, he decided to pay back the whole family with a frivolous purchase that would affect everyone, especially their mother. Mom owned a bodega on the corner and worked tirelessly to keep the lights on, but her hard work was overlooked by the petty, vindictive purchases of her unemployed son, whose selfishness would get called out and punished by his frugal sibling. 

This is one block set that is going to have to (LE)GO back to the store.

  • GolfGuy_824 First, your mom should return the Lego set. It doesn't matter if he thinks she buys everything you order, she doesn't. By paying for it and letting him keep it, she's feeding into what he thinks she does. Her being mad at him about it won't stop him from doing it again, he now thinks she's mad he did it but paid for it because she now feels bad that "she pays for your stuff."

  • Second, after returning it your mom should tell him that he can make his own money and buy all the Lego sets he wants with his own money. Maybe she can show him that you're paying for your own stuff and while that likely won't change his feeling of entitlement, it will at least show him that she's not playing favorites.
